Additional copyright information

Now that we have you hooked into the wonderful and interesting world of copyright, we thought you might like to satisfy your curiosity and broaden your knowledge base through the following sites:

U.S. Copyright Office

This site offers the actual copyright statutes, along with basically everything you will ever need to know regarding copyright. You will also find information and forms pertaining to copyright registration.
Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) The Copyright Clearance Center was developed by publishers to directly respond to and manage copyright permissions requests. Their site includes some general copyright information and an excellent database of registered titles and publishers, including royalty rates. Although their database of titles is an excellent resource for estimating permission costs and response times, please refer all actual permission requests to our office directly. Our office is already registered with the CCC and is the central permissions agency for the University of Minnesota.

This site provides the text of the TEACH and some analysis to help one better understand it. Note: Currently the TEACH Act is not applicable at the University of Minnesota as we have not met all the qualifying provisions.
Crash Course on Copyright (University of Texas System) This site provides some copyright basics, as well as, a tutorial for educators.
American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) This database offers a searchable database of musical titles, artists, composers, and publishers. You will also find information regarding licensing musical works here.
