Books, Theses, & Special Projects

Other services provided by the Copyright Permissions Center

In addition to securing copyright permissions for the everyday academic needs of the campus community, the Copyright Permissions Center will offer assistance to faculty, staff, and students when copyright clearances are required for personal endeavors, such as published book chapters, theses, and journal articles. Again, because of the wide array of variables presented by these projects it is impossible for our office to offer any generic guidelines of when permission is needed and when fair use may apply. Rather, each proposed item would have to be evaluated using the fair use factors discussed in the copyright laws and guidelines section of our site. Our office would be glad to help you during this evaluation process and obtain permissions on your behalf when needed. Also, the publisher and/or editor that you are working with may offer you some guidance in this area.

Fees

If permission is deemed necessary for one of the above specified projects, the Copyright Permissions Center charges a fee of $5.00-$10.00 for every request processed. This service fee, along with any royalties charged by publishers, would be billed back to the department requesting permission through a CUFS number. Contact the Copyright Permissions Center directly if you need to arrange payment through cash or personal check.
